How to prepare for IUI treatment

IUI procedure treatment or intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a form of artificial insemination wherein a procedure is performed to treat infertility. Once the sperm are washed, they are inserted in the uterus as the ovaries release one or more eggs which need to be fertilized. The key objective is to enable the sperm to flow inside the fallopian tube for fertilizing the waiting egg. This will further lead to pregnancy.

Key reasons for undertaking an IUI Treatment:

The fertility of a couple decides their chances of being pregnant. But, some couples still have to undergo IUI treatment under the following conditions:

  1. Donor sperm
  2. Unexplained fertility
  3. Subfertility or mild male factor infertility
  4. Endometriosis related infertility
  5. Semen allergy
  6. Ovulatory factor infertility
  7. Cervical factor infertility

Risks involved in an IUI Treatment:

After knowing about IUI treatment and IUI cost in Bangalore, it is also important for couples to know about the risks that are involved in an IUI treatment.

There is a possibility that an infection might develop during the treatment or post-treatment.

At times, when the catheter is placed inside the uterus, vaginal bleeding might happen. Thus, one should be careful as well. However, this vaginal bleeding does not impact pregnancy.

There is not much risk of multiple pregnancies in IUI treatment. However, when ovulation-inducing medications are given, then this risk gradually increases. Moreover, more than one baby would lead to low birth weight and early labor.

Preparing for IUI Treatment:

Now that you are aware of the basic know-how of the IUI procedure, we are further providing insight with respect to preparing for IUI treatment. It is very important for couples to carefully coordinate before the actual procedure of intrauterine insemination initiates.

The male partner deposits his semen sample in the doctor’s laboratory, or a sperm that has been donated by the sperm donor is thawed and prepared. Initially, the sample is washed so that it does not create any reaction in the female body. Also, this process helps in separating the highly active sperm and normal sperm from low-performing or low-quality sperm. This enhances the possibility of pregnancy.

Timing plays a vital role in ovulation. Thus, couples should monitor signs of impending ovulation. This is a very critical step. ‘At home urine, ovulation predictor kit’ is available, which can be used to detect when the body is producing or releasing luteinizing hormone or LH. There is an imaging method as well, which helps the doctor visualize the ovaries and egg growth. The female partner might be given a human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) examination or medicines for the ovulation of one or more than one eggs at the right time.

Once ovulation is detected, the IUI treatment is done one or 2 days post-it. The doctor in charge will prepare a proper schedule and timing of the procedure.

Conclusion:

Thus, this is how one needs to be prepared for IUI Treatment. Yet, it is always advised to speak with your respective doctor and take a complete understanding.
