SLAT and AILET exams are entrance examinations for providing admissions to law colleges. The purpose of both exams is the same. These are conducted to screen students for admission to their law courses. SLAT provides admissions for integrated law courses. Whereas, AILET is meant to provide admissions for LLB, LLM, and Doctoral Programs. Both of these exams are conducted under The National Law University.

What is the difference between the SLAT and AILET Exam?

One of the well-known universities in Noida, Pune is Symbiosis. It is a deemed university that provides admission to various undergraduate and graduate courses. Besides regular arts and science programs, they have colleges for admission to law programs. Every year, they conduct entrance tests for admissions to their four law colleges situated in Noida, Pune, Hyderabad, Nagpur respectively. The entrance test is known as the SLAT (Symbiosis Law Admission Test). It is meant to screen students for a five-year integrated law course. The main two courses offered by Symbiosis are BA LLB and BBA LLB. Both are honours degree courses and moreover one has integration with arts whereas another one is management. Application for the exam is submitted online, whereas the exams are conducted in offline mode for one and half hours.

 The National Law University is located in Delhi. It is a university that provides admissions to undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses. The University provides five year degree model courses. The bar council of India implements the courses. Every year, they conduct entrance examinations to select students through the ‘All India Law Entrance Test exams’. The AILET is meant to shortlist students through an offline examination that has a duration of one and half hours. The application for this exam is submitted via online mode.

The number of courses for which students can opt is different for both courses. Also, the number of merit seats other than the reserved ones also varies for both. The AILET exam has more questions and marks compared to the SLAT. Also, the syllabus of the exam is also quite broader for AILET. The AILET exam fee is also double that of the SLAT exams.

Is the eligibility the same for both exams?

  • Both AILET and SLAT exams could be written by students qualifying +2 or equivalent examinations in any board.
  • Students who are in their final year of the higher secondary courses could also write the examinations, if they clear the examinations then they should submit the necessary documents for admissions.
  • A minimum score of 50% is required to write both the examinations if the student belongs to the general category. Category based relaxations are available for other sections and foreign nationals.
  • No upper age limits are there for the entrance examinations.
