Tips for Planning the Ultimate Cross-Canada Road TripTips for Planning the Ultimate Cross-Canada Road Trip

Canada is a massive country that can take weeks to traverse by car if you’re having fun. So instead of simply driving from city to city, these are the most important things to think of while going this route.

Plan but Be Flexible

Every road trip needs to be an equal part of planning and letting loose.  This means setting a schedule but being okay if something goes off or if an exhibit is unavailable.

This allows you to take a breather or research another display that could interest you.  Being flexible will ensure the trip is still fun even if things go wrong.

Enjoy The Small Towns Along the Way

There are tons of smaller and niche cities and towns to visit along the way. For example, many people driving through Alberta try to hit Banff but forget to check out Jasper National Park.

Follow your trip on Google Maps ahead of time and look at where you’ll be on different days and whether there’s anything in the area that might interest you. Of course, you can still hit major cities and look for homes for sale in Vancouver, but don’t be afraid to get to know smaller towns as well.

Don’t Forget To Budget.

Road trips are far cheaper than flying: but don’t let that trick you into not making a budget.  A good budget will save you from accidentally making errors like overspending on tourist trinkets and goodies that you don’t need.  Although it’s nice to have items that will remind you of this trip, don’t let it leave you broke.

Instead, budget for what you can and can’t do while on your trip. Of course, there may be some moments where you slip up, but you should budget a little wiggle room for these instances.  Vacations allow people to feel like they should spend every cent they have, don’t drain your bank account for a good cross-Canada trip.

Book Hotels and AirBnbs In Advance

We all want to know where we’re going to stay.  Having your AirBnbs planned ahead of time will ensure you don’t lose too much time in any city and allow you to have goals throughout your trip.

The nice thing is that most hotels will enable you to cancel up to 24 hours ahead of your reservation, so if you have to change something, it’s not too late as long as you know a couple of days early.

Pack Snacks and Food

Food is easily one of the most expensive parts of a road trip.  Although we all have to eat to survive, we don’t have to eat out every meal.  Invest in a good large food cooler, and keep it stocked with ice.  In here, store everything from bread to drinks, snacks, and foods that will interest you.

You can still buy the occasional meals and food to treat yourself, but keep this bin stocked.  This means making many grocery stops along your way to ensure that you get to eat cheap no matter where you go.
