- Conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) (since 2019), NEET (UG) is the only entrance exam for students pursuing undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS) and AYUSH (BAMS, BUMS, BHMS, etc) courses in order to take admission in government or private universities and institutions of India.
- Undergraduate students intending to pursue primary medical qualifications abroad also give this mandatory entrance exam.
- The results for this entrance exam are provided by NTA to the Directorate General of Health Services under the Ministry of Health for allocation of seats.

Exam Pattern and Structure
- The maximum score in this exam is 720.
- There are a total of 180 multiple choice questions asked in the exam, 45 questions each in all the 4 subjects- Zoology, Botany, Physics and Chemistry.
- For every answer which is correct, 4 marks are awarded and for every wrong answer, 1 mark is deducted.
- Biology is of total 360 marks- Botany (180) + Zoology (180). Physics and Chemistry each have a weightage of 180 marks.
- Candidates are given a total of 3 hours (180 mins.) to attempt the question paper.
- However, in the 2021 NEET (UG) exam, the question paper pattern was slightly changed. All 4 subjects consisted of 2 parts each – Section A and Section B. Section A had 35 compulsory questions and Section B had 15 questions out of which any 10 questions were mandatory to attempt.

Tips on how to prepare for NEET 2022
- Start with only 2 subjects at a time. Study them simultaneously. For example, start with biology and study physics or chemistry simultaneously.
- Study the most important topics and concepts first which have high weightage in the exam, so that you will be finished with more in less time.
- Go through all the chapters meticulously from NCERT textbooks first. Mark or highlight all the important statements, concepts and questions and make notes of them simultaneously.
- Once the student has completely prepared from the NCERT books, then only he/she should look for other sources of extra study materials like entrance exam preparation books or online websites.
- In Physics, you must learn and practice all the important laws and formulas by heart. Solve as many questions as you can. Go through and revise all the applications of laws.
- In Biology, you must make organized notes by paying attention to every detail as there are many flow charts and almost every topic has sub-topics. It is essential to practice drawing diagrams as they are also a part of the syllabus.
- In Chemistry, one must know the periodic table by heart. Learn all the important properties of each and every element that is in the syllabus. Practice the formulae and structures of carbon compounds. Solve as many equations and reaction questions as possible. Revise all the examples of important polymers, chemicals and reactions etc.
- At last, go through the previous year question papers of NEET 2019, 2020 and 2021. Practice all of them so that you will have an idea of the topics from which questions are mostly asked.
Things to avoid while preparing
- Procrastinating your studies builds up stress and you will not be able to score well in the exam if your preparation is incomplete.
- Trying to do so much in less time and not focusing more on the quality of studying will lead to confusion and unclear understanding of concepts.
- Not maintaining a consistent study schedule.
- Only study a few topics a day and with focus. This way you will be able to understand and remember what you have studied for a longer duration of time.
- Not maintaining a proper routine which affects both mental and physical health. Getting a good 6-8 hours of sleep every night along with a healthy diet is essential.
